It has long been believed that how we experience pain is a matter of our thoughts. Until recently these beliefs have been tagged as New Age philosophy – but that is about to change. Scientific America (May 17, 2012) reports that recent studies conducted by Christian Sprenger, a physician and neuroscientist at the University Medical Center Hamburg–Eppendorf in Germany reveal that thinking does more than distract you from pain. Complex cognitive tasks may trigger the body’s natural mechanisms to block the sensation of pain.
This should come as no surprise to those who practice holistic medicine – as their stance has long been that the mind and body is an integrated unit able to heal itself.
Deepak Chopra, an endocrinologist and former chief of staff at New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham, MA and author of “Quantum Healing: Exploring the Frontiers of the Mind and Body” shares that the body’s natural painkillers – endorphins and enkephalins – are actually 200 times stronger than prescription painkillers. His philosophy is that we all have within ourselves the ability to both heal and block pain.
These studies seem to confirm Chopra’s beliefs, and may lead the way to further explorations of the marvelous effects the human mind has on the body.

It is interesting to read that pain management/healing through thought is something that is questioned as if it needs to be proven. Humans we have the ability to control and therefore manipulate the equivalent of the most powerful computer in the world......the human brain. That monumental task alone would dictate that we are capable of just about anything including healing ourselves. It is exciting to think about what we will be capable of doing as humans once we figure out exactly how to unleash the full potential of our brains. At some point this discovery process will start to evolve similar to how computer technology has and at that point the human race will see it`s greatest potential realized.
Through Yoga practice I`ve learnt to focus my attention to the part of the body that was painful, fully accept it and sending love to it, breathe towards it etc. and so I learnt to pay attention to my whole body and all the cells in it. This is truly a healing factor. Making and playing (3D virtual reality) games surely have this healing power too. The inner healing factor is naturally within and can be activated in many ways. The Internet already reveales a lot of them.... If you surrender to life, all solutions come within your reach, like for me Yoga, making my own games, walk the labyrinth (of life), discovering the four seasons in a person`s life through the four forces and the four seasons in nature..... Just grateful it all went the way it went...and still goes the way it goes :)
