Spiritual Experience and Understanding.

Quote.

When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.

Question:

I am learning Vedanta for a year, I’ve just read your book The Ultimate Happiness Prescription, I understand that I am the true self what is the next step after that …I read all your book and went to one of your conferences. I took the M.T. meditation course but all that is experience but experience is nothing. Consciousness is important but you talk a lot of what to do to expand consciousness, but we are it. So I wonder what should I do…next?

Answer:

I’m confused by your point that experience is nothing. In terms of spiritual development, direct experience of the true self, pure consciousness, is everything. All the intellectual understanding, all the books and lectures don’t amount to anything unless you have a real experience of that state of pure awareness. This is why in all my books and talks I always emphasize the importance of meditation. To really know yourself takes much more than reading books of Vedanta. Intellectual understanding by itself can never reach that field of infinite intelligence. The atman can only be known by itself in the silence of pure being.

Love,
Deepak

Where exactly does experience occur? Isn`t it at the body, senses and mind levels? Is it justifiable to eqate self-realization that occurs at the level of the spirit with the experience of the senses, body and the mind? Does the spirit also experience?

Could the question be referring to existential despair--`Why experience anything if it virtually means nothing?` Is Deepak claiming that you should experience ceaseless joy in light of this stark truth?
