Letting Out Anger.

Quote.

When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.

Question:

My question is, my anger builds up, there are times where I get so upset & frustrated and get this tight feeling in my chest, where I feel the need to just yell or break something. Deepak, what should I do when I feel like that?

Response:

The anger is an impulsive reaction to a perceived threat and it comes from a part of the brain that on its own lacks restraint and perspective. What we want to do is activate the other parts of the brain to bring in balance through conscious awareness.

Here’s a formula you can use over and over again to override that negative-instinctive-reaction. It’s easy to remember and uses the acronym, stop, S.T.O.P.

  1. Stands for stop, just stop, hold on, wait a minute.
  2. Stands for take three deep breath and then smile. Really feel the smile throughout your entire body.
  3. Stands for observe what’s happening inside of you. It probably doesn’t feel very good. But you have to observe it to know that.
  4. Stands for proceed with awareness and kindness.

Try this next time anger starts to boil up, or with any overwhelming emotion, and you will find that you will gradually develop mastery over your anger.

Love,

Deepak
