Meditation Working.
When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.
Question:
While meditating, I focus on my breath and say the SO HUM mantra you mention in your books. “So” on the in breath and “Hum” on the out breath. I find, however, that my mental chatter is still going on in the background in the form of both thoughts and voices of commentary – firstly is this normal? and secondly is the meditation still ‘working’? And thirdly as I still appear to be the one talking to myself even though I am still saying SO-HUM is it helpful to say things to myself during my meditation that enhance my meditation, like: ‘I am pure awareness’, etc.? Thank you so much.
Response:
It is perfectly normal to have background thoughts during meditation. If you are doing the meditation easily, without any mental tension or resistance to thoughts or sounds, then it is absolutely working. Meditation is working when the mind is allowed to settle into simple awareness. Lastly, don’t add any self-talk to your meditation. That is only adding mental activity to your meditation when you want to give yourself opportunities for the mind to quiet down.
