Lust and Spirit.

Quote.

When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.

Question:

I am most impressed by your deep insight into spirituality. I have a query which I, therefore, feel certain you will be able to answer with ease.

My question, although simple, is one that has absolutely perplexed me for a long while. Your answer could certainly transform my life and, I’m sure, that of many others.

Here it is: How is one to overcome lust which is, as everyone agrees, a gigantic impediment to spiritual development? Is there a way to free oneself from the clutches of this ignoble but compelling craving? Or is one to take it for granted that he is lost forever? Is there no hope- no hope at all?

I eagerly await your reply.

Response:

I’m not one of those who think that lust is a gigantic impediment to spirituality. Sexual energy is an expression of that universal creative force of life—shakti. That is a divine energy, not an ignoble energy.  It’s not necessary to try to stop your sexual desire for spiritual evolution, nor is it clear that is even possible for most people.

What is more important is to use that powerful force to transcend the mere physical aspects of sex to the spiritual aim of unity that the shakti really is aiming toward. I appreciate that this is not the common understanding of sex currently in society, but the challenge to overcome is not to stop the human drive of sexuality itself, but to break free of our judgments, and limited conceptions of sexual energy to achieve the spiritual potential contained within it.

Love,

Deepak
