Ask Deepak

Gap in Meditation.

Quote.

When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.

Question:

In one reply you wrote: “So your mantra can easily facilitate you going into the gap regardless of whatever your conscious dialogue may be. After all, the gap lies between these thoughts, not in them.”

My question is:   Even granting that the mind does wander sometimes, if one is continually repeating the mantra and focusing the mind on it, how can a gap occur?

Response:

Between each repetition of the mantra there are tiny gaps of silence. Even between each series of idea in a sentence, there are imperceptible episodes of stillness. The gap is already there, like the silence before the notes of music begin, in between each note and after the music ends. So there is no issue with whether the gap can occur or exist, it’s a matter of becoming aware of it. During meditation, the gap is often first noticed as fleeting flashes of silence between thoughts of the mantra where you noticed that something besides normal thinking just happened but you aren’t sure what. Then those glimpses expand and you begin to appreciate the character of that silence, its intelligent creative presence that feels like a more intimate essence than anything else you have experienced before. This is the awakening of your true Self that happens naturally through meditation.

Deepak
