Dear Deepak,
My question is: When you love unconditionally, and the other party has struggles such as alcohol or substance abuse ….but is a good person, just hasn’t reached realization to get help yet…should you end the relationship? .everything I believe is stay the course ..especially since the struggles have been more so in last few years vs the near 40 yr relationship. BUT some say walk away, if the relationship doesn’t serve you anymore.

Each relationship is unique and has its own particular history. And in your case, that is a 40 year history. There is no simple formula that can be applied to your situation to tell you whether you should end your relationship or not. You say that you love him unconditionally, and that he is a good person. Hold on to those truths, live every day from that place in your heart, and you will find that whatever decision you need to make, will be the right decision.
