Destiny.

Question:
Dear Deepak, I have been thinking about the concept of destiny a lot recently and am having a hard time understanding it. My question is – do we create our own destiny through the choices we make or is our life charted out step by step somewhere up in heaven? If so, then when do we know that we are using destiny as an excuse for our own failures? Thank You.
Response:
Destiny is the net effect of the past decisions and actions we have taken and are currently taking. In that sense, the cosmic intelligence of our soul has charted out our own lives and we are always changing that destiny with our actions in the present. The only way to use destiny as an excuse for failure is by assuming that it is not based on your decisions.
