Openness and Boundaries.

Quote.

When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.

Question:

I realize that in my quest to be “open” I have lacked necessary personal boundaries.  As I begin to see the necessity for certain boundaries it feels like a deep belief that I have in “openness” as a value is at the risk of being lost. It troubles me.  It feels like the loss of a treasure.  Can I compare it to a loss of innocence? Can you speak to the value of each, openness and having boundaries, to the conflict of the two, or to whatever else you hear me saying?

Response:

Genuine openness is a kind of treasure of innocence, but that openness doesn’t have to come at the expense of being fragile and vulnerable. And by the same token, having strong and clear personal boundaries does not have to come at the expense of sensitivity and compassion.

As we grow in spiritual awareness of our true nature, we become more tender hearted and kind, because we can recognize and connect with the purity and goodness of others from our own essence. So we remain open to everything that is life-affirming and positive around us. That which is not helpful or useful to us we simply don’t engage with or put your attention on. That is how you remain open and maintain personal boundaries.

Your natural self-awareness operates as a natural screening process that lets in what is helpful for your evolution and doesn’t let in what isn’t. It’s like a screen door. It lets in the cool breeze, but not all the leaves.

Love,

Deepak

I think depression is about emptiness, nothingness.....Meditation is also about emptiness.......but the difference is Meditation is about emptiness with purpose..(clear mind, empty mind),....I was listening Eckhart Tolle he said in some video that meditation is about empty mind....but empty mind doesnt mind "idiocy" :) People laughed. That it has nothing to do with intelligence....He doesnt use the word "mindfullness" ...the mind isnt full but empty, when people are mindful, or when they focus, or do meditation. :) ....I think depression is actually emptiness of heart, fullness of mind......meditation is about fullness of heart, emptiness of mind. :)

Thank you both for the question and the response. This has been something I have struggled with most of my life being a very open and caring person who has felt I needed to explain my actions to everyone who disagreed with me. Only now am I realising I can simply let go of other words and actions that do not affirm me as I the person i am without feeling guilty of letting the other down. Namaste
