Spiritual Solutions - Finding Peace in the Big City

Category:  Spiritual Solutions

Jaleh recently moved to New York City from Indiana, and she is wondering how she can find peace in a big city. Deepak encourages her to find peace within through meditation and mindfulness.

Based on the best-selling book of the same name, SPIRITUAL SOLUTIONS is a new video series that helps viewers develop answers to life's greatest challenges from a spiritual perspective.* Each episode features world-renowned author Deepak Chopra speaking with people from many locations and walks of life -- from Union Square in New York to Venice Beach in California. Upload video questions for Deepak from your corner of the world and he may even be answering your question in an upcoming episode. The series will provide tools and strategies to enable you to meet life's challenges from within and experience a sense of genuine fulfillment and purpose.

  • Centering Thought: "Every moment of every day, I live my life abundantly." Success in life is the continual expansion of happiness, and the ability to set worthy goals, and attain them. Success does not have to be at the cost of others. Success is not the key to happiness, Happiness is the key to success.

  • This woman describes exactly the culture of today, she appears to respect lighting candles, meditating and doing yoga but she is NOT living and loving her life in between all those acts of ritual that everyone seems to want to be part of. You can't go to yoga then scream at the children when you get home.

  • Finally , We can say There's No Peace on Earth , and the Fashion of our Era , far from Spirituality , is the Sophisticated Modern Civilization that represents a Silent Killer for the Human Race , We used to accept it while we certainly know that it leads us to an " Impasse " ( Dead end ) !

  • Yes ... BUT ... this might not be the city for her. NYC can be brutal. Fast, rude and impersonal. It can also be fun & exciting. After living there constantly for 25 yrs, I can understand how a different place like Miami, where I now spend lots of time, can make it ALL seem SO much easier ! Yes, we can find peace anywhere, but notice how spas, the Deepak Chopra center, and others have lit candles, sparse environments etc. They are NOT located in the middle of Times Square. I feel like he dismissed her question. I will propose a better one. Follow YOUR own intuition, gravitate towards what makes you FEEL GOOD ! There are other, less intense cities where you can walk ! If NYC offers more anxiety than good for her, keep searching ! :)

  • Peace can be found by using Hands. Creativity is an open eyed meditation.... World Peace Begins At Home... :) Homeless Shelters are often the heartland of chaos, concrete and confusion in cities. Giving residents the opportunity to Colour Mandalas brings creativity, imagination, open eyed focus and in a world where much of the personal development material relies on reading, thinking and talking, is a very powerful use of the meditation tools of focus and breathing. When people are creating, the Mind and breath slows down to a rhythmic flow. When the beautiful woman said to Deepak I meditate, I drink green tea but still I want to slap someone...she could have been offered something to DO with that restless energy not just "hug them". Her HANDS could move that energy into a creative process....I would LOVE for the next 21Day Meditation to be a MedARTation ;) where Deepak and Oprah share 21days of CREATIVE processes for consciousness raising and relaxation....and get HANDS involved in creating Peace...

  • There its a place inside each of us called the sanctuary, to find it one has to look within in this place noise anxiety stress find no room in this place you can only"be" this is my escape some call it yoga transcendence, meditation I call it connecting to the source

  • Look at this beautiful woman, she has experienced many things in her lifetime and she has a little voice here, no wonder she wants to slap someone! Of course the interruptions, the surface talk, she is angry and filled with anxiety as she expresses gently during the video. I use to think that other people like Deepak must know more than me, now I realize this is their knowledge not mine. It is sad how society has lost so much of themselves, especially this lovely and wise woman, how they feel lesser to ask for their own answers from a man, remember he is only a man.

  • I perceive that Deepak was tired...it was an unempathetic RESPOSE to an older woman over whelmed by NYC> I moved there from San Francisco and was over whelmed!! But I learned to pray and count my 30 years there as proof that the 104 Broadway Bus taught me to meditate!!! I continue to have Deepak as a mentor and was able to see him be a bit abrupt------THAT WAS THE LESSON: NO ONE ALWAYS MAINTAINS THE GOAL OF COMPASSION...

  • Some ideas on what can help with city-stress: 1. Make sure to have some you-time 2. Try to find areas that invites peace, harmony, joy, connection, and so forth 3. Connect with others 4. Meditate -- of course -- but in some cases it is helpful to have directed meditation. Such as, learning to release the stress, learning to open up, and so on. 5. Investigate the source of anxiety/stress and work with it

  • Ideas for city-stress continued: 6. Expand your world -- when we are limited in our own world while being surrounded by millions of people -- that is pretty stressful 7. Recognize you are not just going through life, but that you have a purpose. Being purposeful is not because some divine law dictates our actions or karma directs our lives, but rather, we have chosen what is meaningful to us and what we desire to do, and then, act accordingly with intention.

The lady here obviously was still confused and received no practical answer to her question. Listening skills! 0:39

  • When you come from NY, that is what u are used to (noise & crowds). When we change our environment, takes time to adjust.

    Judith Barrett // 2013-07-02 02:48:50 // //
  • Great Advise Deepak......I know it is achievable just keep practising...an oppenness to wonderful dynamics and buziness and noise can be achieved by meditating and being able to shut off whilst being amongst the crowds as well as in a sacred space away from the crowd.....the sacred space is within...... is just like developing and acquiring a certain taste for a specific food....it all depends on whether you want to or not.......Namaste!

  • I usually agree with Deepak Chopra, but as someone who has lived in Manhattan, I realized that my environment can really affect my soul. I found out that I thrive in medium-sized cities where I don`t have to work all the time just to pay rent. I was in survival mode in NYC and I had very little time left for balance. Sometimes you have to move to find peace and there`s nothing wrong with you for not being able to find peace everywhere. It`s about knowing what you need as an individual.
