The Paradox of Existence | The Rabbit Hole

Category:  The Rabbit Hole

The entire Universe is a play of opposites - creation and destruction, light and dark, vast galaxies and subatomic particles. Deepak Chopra takes us down the rabbit hole to explore the paradox of existence.
Nature is a perfect balance of evolution and destruction, renewing life effortlessly out of the death and decomposition of former matter. Life feeds upon life, and without paradox and the play of opposite, there would be no creation at all.

  • "This of course means that from nature`s point of view, insects are more critical than you and me." Very aptly put. IMHO: It`s in our (humanity`s) best interest to continue to reach for a higher state of being (love) or we are doomed by our own hands.

  • “I don’t like work–no man does–but I like what is in the work–the chance to find yourself. Your own reality–for yourself not for others–what no other man can ever know. They can only see the mere show, and never can tell what it really means.” (J. Conrad) Conrad’s affirmation seems fairly clear, doesn’t it? While working you come to understand who you are; through your daily effort, while doing that which furnishes you with the means to support yourself, you realize what you are capable of doing. Your talent, in other words. Let’s say, however, that your job is unpleasant and poorly paid and that it doesn’t satisfy you but, rather, makes you feel frustrated all day and every day. Will you fulfil yourself performing this activity? Now, those that have read Conrad, know that he wasn’t an idiot by any means. Perhaps, then, you have to search for a more profound level in his phrase. In fact, there is one; you, even while working, can also take note of the fact that you search for something else, that you try to reach your true self in things other than that activity that you repeat each day. In other words, you realize, while doing this work that dissatisfies you, that your life must evolve in other directions and that it has to move in a direction that is more satisfying, given your capabilities and your interests. Thanks to your work, that dissatisfaction that you feel in your daily life, and that you sense reading the first lines of this article, transforms itself into awareness and consciousness that you must change your activity, your routine, your life. At this point, responsibility comes into play and the moment that you realize that things are not going well as they are, you must act to change them. And acting implicates, particularly, search, application and courage. All of this could put you in difficulty; do you really feel like exposing yourself up to this point? Do you really want to know who you are? Isn’t continuing on in your routine more comfortable? Yet, at this point, the response to these questions is almost obligatory; you have to do it, you have to understand, you have to move. If you’ve realized that this life is not what you want, then ignoring this and continuing to live it without doing your best to improve the situation will make you feel even more frustrated, unhappy and depressed. You’ll look out at the horizon with the knowledge that there most probably is a world better suited to you – rich in beauty and satisfaction – and, thus, your present state would result ever more hateful. Living with this burden would weigh on all your daily actions and this condition, besides causing unhappiness, also leads to stress and illnesses. Clearly, not all aspects of your health are your responsibility; you would become ill regardless of all the cautions under the sun that you’ve taken. But it’s also true that you are using your intelligence when you do everything you can to make your spirit as light as possible and avoiding, as much as is in your power, maladies of the mind and body. JUST DARE BEING WHO YOU REALLY ARE! START DEVELOPING YOUR UNIQUE POTENTIAL! START BELIEVING IN YOUR REAL 'YOU START THIS PROCESS BY TODAY! START IT RIGHT NOW!

  • It is interesting how these paradoxes define the way we think today. Can we think differently anyway ? I've never read about them before. Now i found them in wikipedia. It really looks like these paradoxes are necessary for the creation. I've been thinking the past on one millennium mathematics problem, but I have not yet found the solution (P versus NP ). I met with this problem in engineering practice. The consequences would be interesting if someone could solve it. In real life we use intuition :)

  • They did a comparison between a large group of insects to a species. But if they did a comparison of different groups i.e. insects to mammals. Insects would still be more important. I believe he mentioned humans because of fact we are "aware" and "sentient". We have the ability to destroy the balance. The animals, don`t. There is a constant balance. I.e. wolves prey on deer, over populate wolves. Wolves go hungry, deer begin to populate. Wolves go feed more. Rinse and repeat.

  • While it is true that if all insects disappeared extinction would occur, it`s kind of a loaded statement.Insects make up an incredibly large group of creatures that many animals use in some way. Humans make up a single species that provides little benefit to nature. Even if we weren`t actively destroying the environment, insects would still play a bigger role simply because of their numbers and how they aid so many other species. A more realistic comparison would be between humans and gorillas.

I find it so much easier to remain balanced by the four rather than the two.

  • As I see it, the equilibriun is slightly tilted in favor of positive/evolutionary direction, as the universe is expanding, at least at this stage. The paradox ... don`t you sense it in you? Intuition is to me what comes "from the blue sky", meaning from our identity beyond the personal mind, and it can be received both in the intellect and emotions.

  • nature is being disrupted at an alarming rate with human intervention. Greed must end in the USA, and in some advanced "first world" (i hate that term) countries. Time to shift consciousness and look at what debris we are creating in Africa with computers, clothes. Overpopulation, squalid living conditions for e.g. in Hong Kong 750 sq ft divided in 20- inhumane living conditions. shake the idea of of ppl`s heads that "i`m here for myself to go from rags to riches" USA is changing. Adapt

  • look up how many gallons it takes to make 1 pair of jeans. Water is a precious resource. And some ppl don`t have access to clean water. Fracking has GOT to stop too bc massive amounts of water used and contamination of land. We need to follow nature and respect it hurting mother earth and father sky minimally. Solar and wind power will free us from wars too.

  • that`s where humanity is headed if we don`t change our ways of consumption! No more plastic bags, packaging organic food with plastic boxes. Recycling is the lowest on the decrease of the carbon footprint. It`s ideal to not need to recycle at all. buy fresh organic food, bars of soap, bars of shampoo, throw only compost, have 3 changes of clothes. and keep life simple and be veg, so the earth homeostasis can be regained. Animals and insects don`t dye their fur, worry much nor carry explosives.

  • Balance, existence, cosmic. These three may seem like words. Yet, they are also the key to all of man kinds questions. We consider them and find out more about them as time goes on. Many chose to ignore these words or are ignorent of them to the point were learning isn`t what it used to be. Philosophy has long been the key to all knowlage. Relgious and scientific. It is the main perseption of everything we know. Sure eatch philosopher has there own bias. But that is just what they preseave.

  • yet we carry the whole evolution up till now from Big Bang inside because we are at this moment the top of evolution. Whether we do a good job is the question, but in the womb we unconsciously travel through the whole evolution as it has evolved up till now...............

  • This is a very beautiful and wise video, Mr. Chopra! Though, I believe that saying that the Earth would flourish without humans is like saying a school would flourish without its students. Think of the power of potentiality and the human quantum mind. Humans may affect the environment in some detrimental ways, but that is part of our evolution and the Earth's evolution. We, as humans and as children of the Earth, are learning how to sustain the environment while progressing life. We are Nature incarnate. We are a necessary part of the source equation.
