Ask Deepak - Do You Believe in Astrology

Category:  Ask Deepak Videos

Should we believe in astrology? Deepak Chopra explores the roots of this ancient way of relating to the cosmos and highlights some of its principles, assumptions, and uses.
Deepak used to be a skeptic, but has since developed an appreciation for some of its core principles. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

  • I once had my fortune read through cards with my ex-girlfriend and the results were impeccable. There would have been no way whatsoever that the reading could have been a hoax or that anyone would have known that what was read was to occur eventually, not even myself. It made me really put serious thought about the "natural order" of the universe and about how there is a grand scheme of things which can be read through various means, one of which may be astrology. It really is fascinating.

  • Sometimes I wonder if people realize how close astrology is to racism. Judging somebody on the month they are born as opposed to the quality of their character. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

  • Are you people retarded? There is overwhelming evidence that astrology is pure crap and no evidence whatsoever proving it to be even somewhat true. My goodness, read a book you morons

  • I am an avid student of astrology - I probably only understand a fraction of it. I love the idea that it connects us to the universe - that we are these spiritual, energetic beings made of stars. I also use it to my compassion, knowing that a person is made up in a certain way very much helps. I`d even go as far to say that the New Testament is nothing more than an astrological translation. The 3 wise men could`ve been astrologers following the perfect birth chart understanding how special he would be indeed. Thanks for sharing your insight.

  • "The claims made by many scientists that astrology is opposed to the basic principles of western science comes from a total misunderstanding of serious astrology, and an appalling lapse in their understanding of the methodology, philosophy and history of science itself." • No, it`s an insult to your integrity OR your intelligence. You are either a con artist, knowingly selling a useless product, or a credulous fool, tricked by a past con man into believing a fanciful mythology that has been repeatedly debunked. I try not to assume one or the other when dealing with people, but in your case I`m inclined to think you`re probably not a con artist.

  • Well that`s an insult to my integrity and intelligence - I would never sell anything I wouldn`t buy myself - but you are welcome to your view. I think I am taking up far too much space on this comment page so I will leave any readers who are interested in knowing more to contact me directly from my YouTube Channel and if Sun signs is your thing then to read the horoscopes of the man I trust and have worked with for almost two decades Cainer.com

  • It`s so cute how you think any of that matters to the end result. Even the most "detailed" chart is still so vague and meandering as to be useless. Any random chart can be applied to any random person. Do it a few times and the ratio of "hits" to "misses" shows that the "hits" are nothing but random chance and confirmation bias. Your career consists of selling vague nonsense dressed up in meandering, antiqued jabbering. But it works for you and you`re only ripping off stupid people anyway.

  • Er I am an `actual` astrologer too and I am afraid you are showing your ignorance ( and I don`t use that word rudely) of the subject as I`m afraid you haven`t done quite enough research! Precession of the Equinoxes, at a rate of 0.125 secs of arc per day, is well known to astrologers and taken into account. The Sun signs are not taken from constellations and anyway as you say they no longer align with them. Vedic astrology has a slightly different methodology. Thanks for your response though.

    Kathryn Cassidy
    // 2013-02-07 12:52:41 // //
  • I`ve done a lot of research into astrology. I studied with actual astrologers when writing my generator. I saw first hand how they operate. They aren`t even using the modern position of the constellations in their predictions! The charts they use are out of date by CENTURIES! Given how eager marks like you are to be fleeced, I might dust off my old notes and start selling astrology charts again. Thank you. Keep chucking money at astrology. Sooner or later you`ll pay for one of my ad-libs.

    // 2013-02-07 09:59:04 // //
  • Ok I should perhaps have been more clear and said explain what CAUSES it. "What exactly causes gravity? It appears to be a wavelike kinetic force, but no one knows for sure" - NASA I`ll pass on the video thanks. Perhaps you can ruminate on the quote from the particle physicist which I posted earlier. `the subatomic building blocks of our bodies are constantly shifting in response to events occurring at the edge of the universe` I`m not here to `convert` you so that`s all from me paranor001

    Kathryn Cassidy
    // 2013-02-07 09:56:54 // //
  • Gravity is an attractive force generated by the effect of motion of 2 or more masses. Facepalm, well I`ll let this describe it: watch?v=XZxzJGgox_E

    paranor001
    // 2013-02-07 09:37:11 // //
  • Can you please explain what gravity is - not define it or tell me the effects but explain what it actually is? If you manage it you will succeed where no other Scientist has. Whilst you are at it maybe tell me what a facepalm is - it doesn`t sound very nice. Finally though we do have something to agree on - You`ll notice I put the word divine in quote marks. Have a lovely day.

    Kathryn Cassidy
    // 2013-02-07 07:04:37 // //
  • "The heavens and earth are inextricably `tied` together..." yes, it`s called gravity. The rest gets a *facepalm* The divine is a human construct and to throw circadian rhythms out there willy nilly as if it has something to do with it is at best a conspiracy theorist method. >sigh< believers

    // 2013-02-07 06:50:13 // //
  • Why are people so frightened that there may be a direct correlatiom between the movements ( cycles) of the planets and other heavenly bodies and the cycles found within the human being? Ignorance? Religious indoctrination? Take a look at this comment by Professor Brian Cox - a Particle Physicist ..`the subatomic building blocks of our bodies are constantly shifting in response to events occurring at the edge of the universe`

    Kathryn Cassidy
    // 2013-02-07 06:23:14 // //
  • You see the apparent path of the sun each day don`t you? You see the Moon opposing the Sun ( Full Moon) etc so you see heavenly cycles. Religion comes from the word Ligare - to bind or to tie. The heavens and earth are inextricably `tied` together and so is your brain tied to these cycles - look up Circadian Rhythms for example. It is ORGANISED religion which doesn`t want us to rediscover how truly powerful and a part of the `divine` we are!

  • You can`t assure me of anything. You can only proffer your opinion based on your current knowledge of the subject from your own level of consciousness. Please look into it more deeply. Sun signs and computer generated reports are the shop window enticing people in to a richer stream of information. It is a many layered wisdom You can`t condem a whole subject just because you put a programme together - well you can but it doesn`t hold weight. Thx

  • How exactly is astrology supposed to give insight into the mind of Jesus Christ when the year and date of his birth are unknown? "Between 4 and 6 B.C., sometime in the Spring, Summer or Early Fall" is a bit vague even for astrologers, isn`t it?

    halleyscomet
    // 2013-02-06 14:56:08 // //
  • Daily dose of wisdom? Is wisdom a synonym of nonsensical bullshit? Because I am not aware of that usage. "a principle of the underlying assumption" sounds prepositional. A lot of yammering with no real support of it`s claims. "does this mean we have no freewill?..." inept argument from consequences.

  • @Steve Wein : You are right! This is what had actually happened with this super science. There has been a gap of almost 1,960,853,993 years between our sages and us. And during this gap this science has travelled through so many hands that its real meaning got lost and it became an object of mere amusement! Though there were many honest and hard working scholars but still they could not extract the real cream however their works in this field were milestones in terms of prediction! As we are going through an era which demands us to prove anything practically (which is good as it blocks the way of superstition) a challenge was felt to revive the core and fundamental truth behind this science and mark my words this will become boon for whole humanity! Currently I am working in this direction with limited time and resources but soon I will be able to dedicate my whole time for this noble cause. Anybody who wants to join me in this research, is welcomed! You may join me at twitter - https://twitter.com/d_1_n_only_MD or at facebook - https://www.facebook.com/madhav.das.9 .

  • No one can deny the free will even Jyotish (astrology) does not deny it. After all we all are consciousness but we are bound to have to be on a particular mental plane that`s why we have limitations. Consider the basic unit of life which is cell. It has its own life and works in its own designed manner. You are made up of trillions of such life units, each having its own function (bones, blood, brain, heart etc.). But what is your actual realization about yourself? Trillions of cells or one whole consciousness? When your will says you want to eat, your trillions of cells work in that direction. Similarly for other activities it is your will which guides unlimited lives in your body in that direction. Now come at the bigger level! Like you, all other people in world are same units of life. Consider them all like cells and you will see that whole earth life has a symmetry from past to present to future...Examine the world history with its trend (but honestly!) and you will find that every country, race, religion and any other sect is constituting to form a giant consiousness which is working along a definite path. There must be a symmetry and limitation to the free will so that universe should remain in order. For example East provided fundamentals as stated above and West brought scientific approach and now both are proving the same fact on practical grounds with mutual collaboration. Astrology is the technique which teaches you to study the time on grounds of few principles. Jyotish is a super science and is far beyond the today`s perception. It is a way of life! It is the actual and core knowledge which fixes your meeting with your real self! However you can experience the truth with your super senses in one more stream YOG which is not that yoga which you are practicing in west to satisfy sensual pleasures! Once you become a YOGI and understand Jyotish, you will find that there is only one free will acting in this universe and which is driving all of us towards the same goal but from infinite paths. The realization of our individuality is nothing but reflection of our consciousness on a particular mental plane. However we all have capability to go far beyond that mental plane and merge into the supreme consciousness which is our reality!!!

  • Considering fate separate than astrology is just like considering fire but denying its heating capacity...As modern science discovers fundamentals of physics, chem etc. similarly Ved explain the connection between real life incidents in terms of planetary positions. We may consider planetary positions as universal clock. Things happen at the right time! We should not go mad about our future but must live in present freely and fully that`s what Jyotish (Astrology) is all about! I will soon translate my blog in English... www.prabuddhbharat.wordpress.com .

  • Unfortunately, there`s no authentic captioning on this video for me. Usually, astrology is found to be fruitless and so false by those who are in the scientific community. However, I think Carl Gustav Jung developed a psychological astrology so as to gain insight on the psyche of individual, especially Jesus Christ. He used the constellation of "paired fishes" to interpret the problem of OPPOSITES in Christianity, inextricably knotted together as the "fish of spirit" and the "fish of matter".

  • I understand what you have said....Vedic Astrology is useful in major events....therefore, the butterfly effect or celestial effect to all the universe would apply mathematically per physics... Personal horoscope being another subject and more challenging to explain in evidentiary terms.... How to define traits that appear more randomly spread...rather than time, distance, space... With this in mind that certain people born under these Stars will exhibit these effects... How traits are specifically correlated and defined.... from the invisible universe, psychics, paranormal...could be mistaken... It is not easy to explain the energy that we can not see...yet, we know is there.... One has to be very careful....
