Gotham Chopra explores the religions of Hollywood, starting with Theosophism, all the way to present-day Scientology.
Many celebrities today also follow Kabbalah, including Demi Moore, Lindsay Lohan, and Britney Spears. Scientology's star-studded followers include Tom Cruise and Beck. The religion has been blasted for its cult-like qualities and high membership costs, but it is really all that different from any other faith? Leave us your comments!

  • I don't know if I'd join Scientology if Tom Cruise 'would look deeply into my eyes and say pretty please' but maybe if Deepak would do that...I'd join his club any day!

  • The Tom Cruise thing... NO! My mom has bad memories of the "Creepy Cowboy".... he nickname for Tom Cruise. We used to live in Telluride and Tom Cruise had gone up there a number of times. He would go to a deli dressed as a cowboy and was a complete weirdo. A couple of time my om was there with my younger sister and I and she would try to ignore his weirdyness while pushing my sister and I to the other side of her.

  • I like him; he`s here to give us facts and if we like his humor then we`ll laugh at his mellow jokes. He`s mellow, almost monotonous voice automatically pulls you into listen.

    // 2012-09-25 21:35:42 // //
  • Even though he might be reading cues, seems like it`s just his style. He evidently is not really a loud and super energetic host haha.

  • Lolnope.

  • I believe it is unfortunate that some people might pick up on a religion just because they idolize a movie star. A belief system should be inspired from a deep understanding of one`s own experience of truth. If Hollywood could do anything in regard to spirituality it could create and promote movies that support the idea of connectedness and Oneness in life.

  • A good job for a short video, but you missed two very important metaphysical/spiritual movements and sites in Hollywood and Los Angeles. First, the Self Realization Fellowship, with a complex on Sunset Blvd and Edgemont, in Hollywood, for many decades and a park and lake open to the public at the end of Sunset Blvd at PCH. It was founded by Yogananda in the 1020`s and many Hollywood celebrities were and still are members. You father, Deepak Chopr, has mention Yogamanda in his writings several times. Second, would be the Philosophical Research Soceity, founded by Manley P. Hall, a world renounded metaphysician. The building, on Los Feliz Blvd in the Los Feliz area is still there and active. Mr. Hall emphasized Western esoteric philosophy and wisdom traditions. His book "Secret Teachings of All Ages" is considered a classic in its field. Many celebrities were drawn to Mr. Hall`s lectures in his day. Hope you include these two in a future updated edition. Thanks.

  • Scientology works for those who need it for whatever reason. I wouldn`t touch it for anything...

    The Universe Unfolds... // 2012-09-22 15:58:20 // //
  • Would I join Scientology? Pro`lly not. But I would not join any religious group. I view organized religion as an angle for pious sinners to make money and control the masses... not as a spiritual guide or the end all be all. Art, Science, Math, and Love Philosophy is my recipe to better enjoy life and understand death. This concludes my rant... And now I`m going to create my day en plain air.

  • Isn't hollywood's biggest religion Hollywood? Aside from wealth, fame and beauty... Do they worship anything else? It's why Hollywood has so many sad stories.

  • He`s breaking in slowly. With his nice looks, voice and gentle manner, he does well to not be unauthentic. I enjoy the show and only wish it was longer!

  • This show has a great concept but the host seems to be reading from cue cards. It`s like he doesn`t actually get the jokes he`s making or care about what he`s talking about.

  • God cannot be tempted Satan tried to get jesus to do that also but jesus responded that you cannot tempt the lord thy god congratulations you just tried the same trick the devil did on jesus You failed in the same way :)

    // 2012-09-15 08:54:51 // //
  • this video is full of garbage. and anyone who believes in such thing is out of touch with reality. jesus is the only way.

    // 2012-09-14 19:34:19 // //
  • We would still have wars even without religion.

    // 2012-09-14 18:10:33 // //
  • Lol, there is a good reason why there`s a fault line running straight through LA.

    // 2012-09-14 17:40:05 // //
  • couse now i`ve seen the errors of ways; say goodbye to all my happy days.

    // 2012-09-13 13:04:54 // //
  • Religion has one purpose; to bind one to God, so God is the ultimate reality.

    // 2012-09-13 06:42:57 // //
  • Scientology was better when it was just a premise in L.R.H`s scifi stories... You can get the same thing a lot cheaper taking a couple of EST seminars (no aliens required).

    // 2012-09-12 23:58:31 // //
  • I would not convert to Scientology because it seems like a form of brainwashing. Also, I`ve noticed that most people who have converted to the religion has possessed manic behavior and it reminds me of a cult.

    Constance Franklin
    // 2012-09-12 20:50:11 // //
  • Religion at its core was created for good intentions. It`s not that religion caused the wars but the level of which the human consciousness is at, is what causes wars.

    // 2012-09-12 19:09:56 // //
  • Sometimes, I think about religion. While I am still faithful to God, I still sometimes think that maybe people invented religion so that we would all do good things, and not run amonk and start killing and stealing from eachother.

    // 2012-09-12 17:48:48 // //
  • No they still would have happened. It would have just been over some other stupid shit.

    // 2012-09-12 14:35:14 // //
  • Religion is stupid. Period. If any religion didn`t exist, many wars wouldn`t have happened.

    // 2012-09-12 14:23:59 // //
  • I would NEVER join any group, especially `religious` groups..another form of mind control and divide and conquer.

    // 2012-09-12 12:50:59 // //
  • nope. I would NOT convert to seems more of a cult to me and I don`t do cults...and, the belief that we are immortal aliens who need to cleanse ourselves from negative energy just sounds like a bunch of baloney, I understand the negative energy part but not the "immortal Aliens" part

    // 2012-09-12 12:23:14 // //
  • Is it a fear of not belonging somewhere? Ah, a place to call home? I don`t need to join any of those religions, the view is fun from over here.

  • what`s the point of paying just to be a part of a church thing?

    // 2012-09-12 09:56:32 // //
  • well last time I checked out Scientology, the cost of entry was 5000 bucks...I am almost certain the price has gone up .

    // 2012-09-12 09:33:12 // //
  • hollywood and LA is a shit hole

    // 2012-09-12 09:32:42 // //
