Dr. Deepak Chopra Discusses The Role Toxins Play In Breast Cancer and Obesity.

Dr. Deepak Chopra believes, as many health experts do, that our daily exposure to chemicals contributes to the alarming epidemic of obesity, cancer, and Type 2 diabetes.

Chopra discussed the importance of limiting the amount of chemicals in everyday products during a panel discussion on Sept. 19, 2012, in New York with Jeanne Rizzo, CEO of the Breast Cancer Fund, and John Replogle, CEO of Seventh Generation.

 

"Exposure to toxic chemicals in our everyday products increases risk for many diseases, including breast cancer," said Rizzo, who noted that one in eight American women will develop breast cancer during her lifetime.

 

"As more and more people begin to connect the dots between toxic exposures and disease, they say, 'Enough! No more toxic trespass. We want safer products!' "

 

Chopra, a physician who has written over 19 best-selling books on health, said people unknowingly are exposed to hundreds of chemicals every day through household cleaning products, cosmetics, cell phones, and food, among others. Exposure to these toxins contributes to obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and all kinds of cancers.

 

"Any time the body is exposed to chemicals during rapid cell development, there can be devastating effects in later life," said Chopra, 65. "Two-thirds of people are concerned about petrochemicals in products; that is not enough. It should be 100%.
