The holistic health guru, 65, has written a memoir, Brotherhood, with his brother, Sanjiv Chopra, a medical professor at Harvard.
What inspired this book?
It was a chance for us to look back at our lives. We were brought up in the same environment and trained in medicine, yet we went in different directions. Every encounter shapes our identity.
As an immigrant, how do you react to something like the Boston bombings? The suspects in that case were immigrants, too.
If that incident influences our policy on immigration, then we’ll miss all the other people who have come from all over and are contributing to the greatness of the United States. You just have to look at the list of U.S. Nobel prizes to see that a lot of the winners are immigrants.
Do you like connecting with your audience via Twitter?
I do. It gives me the chance to interact with people from all over the world. It’s hard to make a contribution in 140 characters, but I try!
Join us for a twitter chat! @ParadeMagazine will speak with Deepak and his brother, Sanjiv, on June 6 at 3 p.m. ET. Use the hashtag #paradechats.
