Facts Versus Faith

Category:  Deepak Quotes

The rift between materialism and spirituality: facts versus faith is centuries old by now, and yet the brain may heal it. Solid research about meditation has confirmed that the brain can adapt to spiritual experiences.

  • The spiritual path is as personal as there are humans on this planet. It depends on so many circumstances and experiences in ones life that no-one has exactly the same. If you are not able to have your basic needs met, you will not even consider the above. As long as this hunger is present in todays world we might as well shut up and take care for that basic need for everone.......

  • It is one thing to identify superficially through holding opinions and beliefs related to spiritual principles rooted in the Oneness of all. It is quite a different thing to get oneself established in a living faith determined to come into accord with what rings true through exercising of one’s critical thinking, intuition, and insight. Through experimenting and involving oneself with these concepts in daily life one begins facing the conflicting values and desires long stored in the unconscious mind. This is real learning --a transformation in which one purifies one’s heart of attitudes rooted in the illusion of separativeness, making room for the welling up of Love, Truth, and further inner g-u-i-dance.

  • To answer the question Dr/Master Chopra I am not so sure that I am meditating enough yet but I became Zen Buddhist by choice when I was 17 and since then I have been meditating at least 1-2 hours a day. But I find it better for me anyway to do it late at night. I find that the ambient mental and physical noises of the world are quieted and am more relaxed and primed to get into deeper states of meditation. I don't really need much sleep for some reason anymore. But recently have been doing Krya meditation and find it amazing !! Now what I wanted to ask you Deepak, ( and I am going to see you again in Moncton so maybe I shall have the chance to ask you directly ) is that lately I have been staying in really, really long and deep states of meditation. The last one a few days ago lasted over 9 hours and I don't know quite how to explain it but I have no inclination to come out of it and usually I have a very hard time doing so.And feel a kind of sadness when I come out. The temple here is only getting on it's feet and I have no local Sensei you see to guide me. In Toronto where I am from, and lived most of my life, I had much better guidance, but I am flying kinda solo here and am not sure what I'm doing. Is there anyone on staff or Mr. Chopra himself who might be able to give me some direction or input here. My e-mail is Thank you all for listening and looking forward to any response when you have the time...which I imagine is a tall order. But I have gotten this out into the universe and so perhaps the answer will manifest elsewhere. See you in Moncton on April 17th Deepak. Always a magical and illuminating experience hearing you and reading your books. God bless you all and peace to follow you. Namaste.. Lanna Rose Lanteigne. • I often think about your brain, dear Mr.Chopra...and what kind of star dust it is made of....because it's brilliantly creative and so radiating that you can almost touch probably transforms your faith and thoughts into solid, sparkling diamonds that people are able to see <3 p.s. I adore your quotes of your new book since I haven't seen it yet in bookstores here

  • First, I feel meditation is a necessary part of life. Now...the brain can adapt to anything it is presented with...that is its beauty and, function. The rub lies in which perceptions you will channel your energy to; Positive or create physical truths or, emotional truths? Each will present itself as real as the other to oneself. Example being...when one makes their brand of divinity so real, they will die and kill, to maintain that emotional truth...this is adaptation of the spiritual to enforce negative need structures. Meditation does put one in a state of receiving and openness, but, can also be a means to entrench oneself in negative emotional truths. Is prayer not a 'western' form of meditation? My point I guess is, meditation without intellectuality, becomes an emotional brewing pot. In my humble opinion, meditation (or positive prayer) is one of the most important parts of intellectual management of ones emotional self.

  • In materialism there is the collecting and reinforcing of a variety of illusions (low desires, worries, enmity) that veil one`s consciousness from Truth, Beauty, Love, and Purity. The processes and paths of spirituality are destructive in that they strip away at the veils and foster an aspiration for union with Truth which holds real peace and happiness. When asked what yoga he taught, Meher Baba said, "You (separate self) go and I (real Self) come."

    Ron Greenstein // 2013-02-18 10:15:10 // //
  • Materialism is important for our current reality - as it gives us a choice to go with either gut, (spiritual) instinct or to take an easier path and go with society's flow.

  • Brendan, I am not sure where you may have sourced this information. Im not aware of debate for this argument in scholarly literature? It sounds like an interesting premise- but it's likely one of many myths out there concerning actual psyicality of the brain- and its consituent parts, in relation to intelligence. This sort of thinking, I believe, may be traceable to the positivistic worldviews of early Europeans. Sort of an adaption, of ‘brain size’ theories more broadly. This thinking emerged from pseudo-scientific paradigms like scientific racism, for example, and evolutionist theories. ""Brain length, height, size of the corpus callosum, and measures of the frontal and temporal lobes did not differ between Einstein and controls. However, size of a specific gyral region in the frontal operculum was different in Einstein’s brain from that of the control group"" The exceptional brain of Albert Einstein Sandra F Witelson, Debra L Kigar, Thomas Harvey Appears people are still obessing over Einsteins fleshy bits.

    Dean Kelly // 2012-12-23 12:52:09 // //
  • Einstein had spiritual insight and logical analysis, he had a huge corpus colossum too (that's the center of the brain, the bridge)..

I went to purchase it before B&N had it in the store where I live and went back, got it and said "I want to use it" but everyone's been super busy with this shift time coming up, plus Christmas and Hanukkah, etc. ShareWorthy, this one is, thank you!
