Memories

Category:  Ask Deepak

Question:

Deepak, I want to know if memories are part of our physical bodies or our soul?

Response:

Memories have a physical expression in the activity of the brain, but the memories themselves are nonlocal and nonphysical. There are parts of the brain that are associated with different cognitive functions, including different types of memories, but the memories are not in the brain cells, neurons and chemicals—the memories are expressed through that brain structure and activity.

Love,
Deepak

  • When you have Alzheimers, your cognitive functions deteriorate. It definitely has to do with cells in your brain that do not respond accurately with your body anymore. My mother had Alzheimers and I have witnessed the process step by step. It is a slowly but surely degrading of the cooperation between the nervous system and cognitive brain functions, causing loss of memory in everything, mental and physical. And we may believe for a while that we are the ones riding the horse but while we are making the plans, life just unfolds........ When the heart stops beating, the breath is withdrawn and the brain deteriorates and in that one moment of our death gives us a hallucination that makes it all worth having lived for...........

  • There is an "Universal DNA Memory/knowledge" that is an integral part of our cells. We are born with it. We know good and bad, right and wrong; we are the ones that choose to ignore or listen to that innate DNA memory. If thought manifests our reality, when does the thought and subsequent action become a memory? Do all of our memories and experiences then flow into the "Universal Onenness, a global internet, a depository of all of our experinces at this level of existance. Just a thought...

  • Deepakji, does it mean memory is part of soul? since soul records all type of sanskars(impressions) and carry it out in next costume(body)it takes after death.

  • The brain is a relay switch and if damaged may effect your ability to access memories etc and so it appears that the brain is storing the memories

  • You are a spirit inhabiting a body and so all memories are part of your time track. They are not chemical. In fact mutliple studies have shown that there is not enough room in the cells to store the memories in the biological brain.

  • Is it possible to somehow loose part of one`s identity by having pushed away memories, even good ones? Some years ago I moved to a different country and drew a line under my old life, tried to live right here and now. But now it`s like I`ve lost myself a bit. Is it important to go back in mind to the good memories to get more of my base back?

  • My question is if memories themselves are nonlocal and nonphysical ,but the memories are not in the brain cells, then why people who have dementia in which they saybrain cells get defective or are destroyed why they loose memories. my sis has dementia she doesnt remember many of past life events ,not any address or most of family members names.even she has forgotten the name of town she is living in.if the the memories are expressed through that brain structure and activity.so it means than even brain activity gets destroyed where is this brain activity located??????will appreicate ur explanation sir__THNXS IN MILLIONS

  • To answer the question: I would say that the brain stores the memories but the soul gives them life. Think of the body as a computer and the souls as OP system. A fully functioning computer can´t do much besides being a fully functioning computer without something to guide it what to do with it's hardware.

  • This seems to be plausible that memories are nonlocal and can be triggered by sensations and perceptions, but how does this explain a brain trauma that prevents people from recollecting their memories. It seems the physical structure of the brain may have a greater role in memories than you suggest.

  • Should we include another term SPIRITUAL MEMORY, that is memory stored as part of the soul's entity. And that memory is partly concealed to the brain processes ( mind, ...). So soul's memory is superposition of our daily longterm andshorttem memroy. Souls memory could manifest in moments or instants like flashes , dreams. It could influence our daily decisions ( subconsioussly ) and drive our life. So process of elevating ( spiritual work and abundance of personality, peace in daily Life, prayers, meditations, work for others - we get mirrors ) consiousness are providing us to enter in those parts of concealed spiritual memory.

  • Both, there is so much proof for genetic memory and memory transfer during organ donation for example, I know that they didn't cull a certain breed of sheep during the foot and mouth disease in the UK because the specific type of sheep knew the route back to the farmer across the moors and no other sheep did. Although there really is no difference between the two. Matter is energy and visa versa. All the light is already here :)

As I get older, there is much faster forgiveness, less attachment, and also, less recall of names and title.... not sure which is the preferred 'benefit' :)

There have been patients who went into cardiac arrest where the heart had stopped and brain functions ceased and yet the patient had a NDE...which confirms that consciousness is not part of the brain..
