LSD for Spiritual Experiences

Category:  Ask Deepak

I recently broke free of the cycle of addiction and am now three months sober. While I do not miss drinking, the majority of my problem, I do miss hallucinogenic drugs, specifically LSD. I believe that it provided me with spiritual experiences and helped me remain in tune with nature and the Universe itself. Should I continue to avoid these drugs, even though they provide spiritual benefits?

Good for you for staying sober these last 3 months. Because of your addictive past, it would be wise to avoid hallucinogenic drugs like LSD, even if it did provide some spiritual opening for you before. The experience of attunement with all of Nature is always available to you as your true essence, even without drugs. If your only experience of spiritual unity has come through hallucinogens, you are more inclined to think you need them in order to have that experience, instead of recognizing that higher states of consciousness are your natural developmental birthright and can be awakened through the meditation practices.

  • ANY ADDICTION only gives you illusory experiences. It's best to go to the movies, same illusion and not that addictive. When you intake substances or even gamble, you're just looking for the hormone release rush. All drugs are precursors of hormone release. THE REAL ADDICTION IS TO ENDOCRINE SYSTEM HORMONES, even sex does the trick - endorphin, serotonin, etc. If it is hormone based IT'S ILLUSORY, it's holographic, sensation based. And you basically ignore you're feeding a massive number of entities. That's why it brings death. Plus all those practices that seek the rush are self-destructive because you're seeking externally what you can only find internally thus the more you do it the emptier you are hence the more you need. The junk food obese are same, it gives a hormonal rush but doesn't nourish the body so it gets hungrier and hungrier. It's an addiction. Many women who get a boob job seek the same satisfaction in externality and the attention they get that they previously did not feeds them (vampirism). That's why many come back for bigger and bigger implants. Again rush, again externality dependence. This is why the only successful addiction healing practices focus on prayer/divinity. It's basically the same type of energy (Neptune/Pisces) but applied constructively, i.e. positively. Sunday or Sun-day is the day of the Lord, Dominus in Latin. This means Master. The Sun rules the Heart. Be a Master of Self living a Heart centric ABUNDANT life and you'll do fine. Wishing All Joy, Love and Light (((❤❤❤)))

  • They tell you with one hand all of existence is an illusion but that psychedelics provide a false illusion. It is simple suppression if we are able to attain great insight and inspiration it is clearly a tool for exploration of the self provided for our use. they wish to lord it over you by claiming it is only the property of the guru. It is a tool for us. we should not depend solely on it or solely on meditation or self reflection or mantras but all of these in combination. If we are asked to simply surrender ourselves to god I challenge all enlightened individuals to do much much less and make a temporary agreement with a plant. It is guaranteed to dissolve ego.

  • I think the best comment I can offer is that the drug kills us in the process of obtaining that (polyester) spirituality. Whereas, if we allow our natural higher selves to achieve that state, the "devil" of a drug won't be killing us by the back door in the process. All the best to you.

  • This reminds me of the early experience of Ram Dass during his visit to India..where he met his Guru. He too was addicted to hallucinogenics propelled by the spiritual experiences he received...his Guru knew this and ingested it all. With no sign of physical change, his Guru was able to show him another way thru inner development (meditation/contemplation). I know it's tough, take it one day at a time and each moment continue to return to that inner source that calms all cravings. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti!

However, properly sought and administered the plant mixture Ayahuasca and the healing medicine San Pedro cactus can be allies in recovery and are not addictive. • It all depends on the context of using, the environment and the overall perceptions of the community. LSD in the European world has a negative history and is illegal, so there are the legal, ethical and moral sides to be considered. Also are you willing to seek other techniques that may provide similar spiritual guidance?

Also noticed when I drink, I do not feel anything compared to this high, so I have pretty much stopped. There is more for you in this life, let go and live, without a chemical crutch. • I suggest you go to an AA or NA meeting as soon as possible, you need a good support system. I don't know if u did this on your own, or if u went to rehab to detox. Either way, it is extremely important that you surround yourself with people who have been sober for a while and understand what it's like to be an addict. If u attend meetings, try asking that question to someone who has a few years clean, they will tell you, that its your decease talking. I promise you will have that spiritual connection again. You also have to take into consideration that ur body is re- adjusting, ur nervous system is still out if whack. Stay clean, stay positive and keep the faith .

  • In our nature, natural spiritual experiences show up only when we are pure natural. Drugs can be fun but its also a way to force our system and its fake. In my life I saw too much people go wrong on drugs in a real bad way here in Amsterdam. People who died because of that too young. But also became psychotic or chronic tired. To much acid in the body makes us ill. They have to deal with that already for years when they are still alive. Believe me drugs is unpredictable and rude. We have a beautifull system. Take good care of that.

  • Tx Deep. I'm F. and i'm an addict. This is a great answer for a bad question...very bad question :( Deepak gave you the solution for you to stay alive for another day... even reading all his books, meditating and staying clean you will never fulfill your emptiness unless you surrender and recover your self respect. That's the higher you can go to experience your spirit, your tune or what ever you believe in. What you are looking to experience is death... i know that because i'm 11 year and still don't take it for granted. The only promise is "TODAY"... You can go to prison, hospital or coffin, or you can look for others that feel as you a 12 step meeting... Dead addicts don't recover, man. You are a miracle, one day clean, but alone you are nothing, man. NAture only accepts real experiences without masks. You don't have to prove you can, man. Value yourself, toguether we can... "one dosis is tomuch and a dousand is not enough". I can feel high today with watter, yoga, sports, work or any other healthy practice...but for that to happen, i still have to practice my 12 steps and what Dr Deepak :) is telling, on a daily bases, the best i can. Sure you understand this...but deal with feelings it's another question....just open your mind to someone you trust and believes you. It only works when you stay clean... many 24h ago i didn't like or knew who i was, couldn't even look myself in the mirror, even God wanted to kill me and i was very deshonnest to miself among other character deficiencies. Now i'm grateful to my Higher Power i can practice spiritual principles and give without expecting in return. Just stoped by because someone was there once for me too, as i was, and i realised that no one was different than me...i felt unity, love, self-acceptance for the 1st time in my life FOR REAL...I found in my new LIFE what i was looking for in "stones"!!! lol hahahaha "Abuse it is loosing the right to use it". "We remember where we came from, so we can make it different". Stay clean, just for today, you see?!

  • Drugs are cheating, a shortcut . A person using LSD to be able to meditate has definitely missed the point. With that , I will leave it up to Mr. Chopra to advise. He is much more qualified than I and gentler too. My experience with deep meditation is spotty; however, I do frequently center myself by remaining silent and shutting out the world for a bit. I have been doing that since I was a child. I would like for my ego to recede and allow my inner child to be heard. More and more often I can hear her :-)

I have not had addition problems, although I had been married to someone who was. Because of all of your kindness's, I have been witnessing here on face book, I am tempted to ask a question. Blessing to all.

  • Meditation is NOT that great !!! People swear by it, but nobody ever sticks with it.... Most people who turn to drugs are impatient by nature, meditation is the LAST thing we need !!!! Try Working out, running, tennis, etc;

  • LSD takes a person WAY too far away from the conscience reality of life on earth !!!! Exploration is FINE, don`t get me wrong !!! I visited that realm myself many times, but I found it to be very isolating !!!! Think about it !!! Gramma never went there, neither did any of your pets !!! In my case, I became concerned that at some point I would never want to come back... Plus, it`s pretty hard to manage life & pay the bills & keep your family from having you committed when you are tripping all the time.... Not to mention trying to stay in a relationship

    Mike Nelligan // 2013-02-01 00:22:46 // //
  • I guess everyone has their own unique way, and with meditation, it's not like about having a 'mind-blowing' experience of your supernatural consciousness, it is not meant to be entertaining or just a way to feel good, although those things can sometimes happen. For some, taking a walk in nature and pausing for a moment and not thinking of anything in particular and slowly breath while just taking in your surroundings semi regularly is a great place to start. Also, I'm not against very occasional experiences with safe conscious people for synthetically enhancing a spiritually opening experience, and then after-words taking some quiet time to ponder and receive more insight from that opening. But, addiction can be tricky though, it can even take something that was meant to be an sacred somewhat ritual assistance for opening consciousness, and turn it into just another form of entertainment, with very little benefit to personal health or consciousness development. But what Depak Chopra has said, is great advise. - Namaste. - Michael

  • For this guy hallucinogens are a trigger and he should probably avoid them. I practice Vipassana meditation daily and occasionally ingest entheogens both of which i find tremendously rewarding in their own rights. When used with the right intention and follow through they create what Deepak's calls "a reality more real than than the one that creates war, violence, fraud etc" He goes as far to say we should all have a big party in Peru and drink ayuasca (DMT)! Here is my source/to each his own. Namaste :P

  • to the person who posted this question...I too have broken my addiction to many many drugs as well. LSD was one of my favorites. Having experienced what I did on LSD opened some doors for me that to this day still remain open. Look deep within yourself and you will find that it is easier to connect to the world around you, even without the aide of LSD. It is within us all to experience a higher state of consciousness and which state you choose to get yourself to. You do not need adulterants (being foreign substance in your body) to reach anything. All you need is yourself :) Namaste.

Also dear addict, because you still are, I ask you this question: Are you a body having a spiritual experience or are you a spirit having a bodily experience? If you know/learn the answer to these questions, then you will never never never treat your body or mistreat your body again using these hallucinogenic drugs...they KEEP you from your true spiritual experiences
