    Bliss in Meditation

    Category:  Ask Deepak

    Question:

I hear people talk about the bliss felt in meditation, and even you said in day 22 of free to love that "I trust you've felt the incredible bliss of forging your path to love" but in meditation I don't know such bliss. And besides I thought that our true self is non-dual which means there is no experience and to tap into that stillness means pretty much like going into the deep sleep state. You can't tell the difference between being in the gap and falling asleep because there's only awareness after you come out. So where is this bliss? ,I've heard advaita teachers say that the bliss is the reality of no pleasure and no pain. But nothing doesn't equate to bliss with me. Could you help me understand ananda, explain a little more about bliss?

    Response:

Ananda, or bliss is declared to be an essential aspect of reality or Brahman, along with consciousness and existence (Sat-Chit-Ananda). But that pure non-dual state of Brahman is, as you point out, not an experience in the common sense of the word. It is pure consciousness aware of itself. However, as individual mind transitions into that universal state, it briefly touches, as it were, that non-dual reality, and in that contact it experiences bliss or ananda. This is why Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita, brahma samsparsham atyantam sukham- contact with Brahman is infinite joy.

    Love,
    Deepak

    Intense Emotional Release in Meditation

    Category:  Ask Deepak

    Question:

Hello, You may never receive this email, but I will send it out there just in case! I have been meditating for about the last year and believe it is truly healing me and bringing true bliss to my being. Some things I don't understand though. Twice this has happened, I will begin to breath very heavy and feel as though something is being ripped from me. I begin to cry not hysterical by any means (but I feel as if I could if I weren't meditating). I feel a sensation of myself crying out or yelling (but I don't), and I almost wish I could to release it. It's as if I'm yelling in my mind. I'm not sure what's happening. I calm down after a bit, and feel fine, but very exhausted afterward and just rest. Am I still in a meditative state? Is this okay or normal? Thank you for your gifts. They are changing my life everyday.
