Alzheimer’s Disease: How to Face Fear With Knowledge (Part 1)

Category:  Consciousness , Health , Spirituality , Science

By Deepak Chopra, MD, FACP and Rudolph Tanzi, Ph.D.,
The Joseph P and Rose F. Kennedy, Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School, Director of Genetics and Aging, Massachusetts General Hospital

Few people feel comfortable thinking about the aging process, but discomfort turns to fear when it comes to the brain. Medically, everyone’s brain slows down in some way as they age. This doesn’t have to be a source of fear – to be older is often to be calmer, wiser, more at peace. Those desirable states are mental. The brain is secondary. But the brain is primary when it comes to disease, and the most feared disease is Alzheimer’s.

Science And Spirituality Don`t Have To Be Opposites

Category:  Guest Bloggers , Spirituality , Science

Written by Menas Kafatos,Fletcher Jones Professor of Computational Physics at Chapman University

Susan Blackmore, Deepak Chopra, Leonard Mlodinow and myself participated in a panel during the “Towards the Science of Consciousness” conference in Tucson, Arizona on 10 April 2012. The idea behind the panel came from Chopra’s book with Mlodinow War of the World Views that inspired the title of the debate. The panel was to have a discussion about the two, broadly termed, views of spirituality and science. I would rather, personally, not have simplified what are complex arguments by using simple labels. Nevertheless, we were there to discuss in good spirit different points of view on the nature of reality, how humans fit in the general scheme of things and particularly what is consciousness.

The Future of God and Science

    Category:  Spirituality , Science

Guest editor Deepak Chopra on why God's future depends upon science, and vice versa - and why sages and scientists should meet.

Our intention is not to pigeonhole anyone as sage or scientist or to join a camp for ideological reasons. There is a struggle going on between science and spirituality that will shape everyone's future, and if we each decide to join in, a blending may occur with magical consequences. What could be more fascinating? Together a complete engagement of the human faculties promises a more powerful and realistic basis for humanity's next evolutionary leap. The third international symposium of sages and scientists will be held at La Costa Resort & Spa, Carlsbad, California, March 3-5, 2012.

The "Quantum Soul" Part3 - Orchestrated Objective Reduction ("Orch OR")

    Category:  Science

Written by Stuart Hameroff and Deepak Chopra

The Penrose-Hameroff theory of "orchestrated objective reduction" ("Orch OR")proposes that consciousness depends on quantum computations in structures calledmicrotubules inside brain neurons, occurring concomitantly with and supportin neuronal-level synaptic computation (Penrose and Hameroff 1995; Hameroff andPenrose 1996a,b; Hameroff 1998a,b; Hameroff et al. 2002).

The "Quantum Soul" Part2 - The Quantum World and Fine Scale of the Universe

    Category:  Science

Written by Stuart Hameroff and Deepak Chopra

Quantum theory tells us that physical processes occur in discrete, quantized steps, or levels. The laws that govern the quantum differ strangely from the predictablereality of our everyday "classical" world. At small scales, and sometimes at largescales, the bizarre laws of quantum mechanics reign. For example, atoms and subatomicquantum particles can exist in two or more states or places simultaneously, more like waves than particles, and existing as multiple coexisting possibilitiesknown as quantum superposition, governed by a quantum wave function. Another quantum property is "nonlocal entanglement," in which components of a spatiallyseparated system remain unified and connected (Penrose 1989).
