Staying Calm

Hi Deepak How can we stay calm during crisis situation in our life? Though I know up and downs are part of life & the happy times will surely come, sometimes the pressure of the moment becomes unbearable. How to have tranquility during tough times?


The secret is to locate your calm center which is always there as the silent core of your being. Acting from that place allows you to respond to whatever difficulty with balance and grace. Many people find that the best way to connect with this source of inner strength is by taking three or four full breaths deep into your abdomen. As you do this hold in your mind that with every inhalation you are bringing a calming, clarifying wisdom to your true self, and with every exhalation you are completely letting go of any tension, frustration, or fear inside. After a few of these clearing breaths, feel the presence of your calm center and listen to what guidance it offers for your next action.

I agree wholeheartedly! I was able to calm myself and a classroom full of kids in the midst of a stressful situation yesterday by having everyone take three deep breaths. I`m the music teacher, and I taught them all how to breathe deeply at the beginning of the school year. After those three breaths yesterday, we were able to switch gears and most of the students were successful in the task assigned to them afterward. When the flow of oxygen to our brain is increased and fresh, we are more focused, and we are calmer.
