Cross Cultural Marriage.

Quote.

When your mind and heart are truly open abundance will flow to you effortlessly and easily.

Question:

Thank you so much for all you do. You and your teachings have meant so much to me. My issue is this: I come from a first generation Indian family and my boyfriend is white. My parents are very upset with my choice, very upset. They feel betrayed, and are threatening to cut all relations if I continue this relationship. I am trying to be as loving and compassionate as I can, explaining that I love him and we share the same values. But I am struggling with where my responsibility lies and how to maintain unity with my family in this situation. I do not want to hurt or cause anyone pain. Our relationship feels very difficult and challenging right now. My question to you is what to do when the choices that are best for me are so hurtful and painful to my loved ones?
Thank you again, and I appreciate any feedback you can provide.

Response:

You’re going to have to feel your way through this family situation with love and lots of patience. I suggest you give your parents the popular Indian novel “2 States” by Chetan Bhagat. It is a story of love, that parallels yours to a large extent. There are many stories of how this popular book is changing traditional minds in India. In the end, time may be your best ally in eventually winning over your family.

Love,
Deepak

I don’t know the depth of love you and your partner share. If you really feel that your partner also has the same intensity of feelings for you, go ahead with your decision to marry him. Try to convince your parents patiently about your situation; definitely they will understand you. In case if you are going to follow your parent’s advice, remember that, it is not easy to forget a person whom you love most. Even if you try to adjust with the new life, you can never become the real You and the suppressed feelings can make yours and your loved ones life miserable. It can also cause health problems too.
