Science and Consciousness

Category:  Deepak Quotes

The objective world of science is the measurement of subjective experiences in consciousness.

Top comments

  • science is outward introspection, spirituality is inward introspection. Whatever is measured is a person`s own introspection......... so subjective. When one reaches the emptiness during meditation or for that matter: concentration, something pops up that can be measured, a thought or a visualization...either way it is subjective. This is only my way of explaining my own creativity. When there is a broad concensus about a measurement it enters the collective consciousness...

  • how can one measure consciousness? is it even possible to "measure" my perception of my experiences? what would the constant be?

  • It seems that it is the opposite. The subjective experience of consciousness is the "measurement" of the objective world as seen by science.

  • Does this imply that science has not progressed far enough that it has not been able to with precise accuracy explain the source of its origins which is "consciousness"? since we do not have a concrete tangible knowledge proof of what is "consciousness". We may be able to experience it through the power of meditation and awareness but that is again each person`s experiential knowledge. The other question about it is when talking about the infinite, could something as finite as the human intellect actually elevate and transcend itself to that level where it is at the level of the "infinite being - CONSCIOUSNESS".

  • I think he`s trying to say that science cannot cut through the subjective to get to an objective truth.I think it`s a double speak way of saying the the scientific community are incorrect in declaring themselves capable of remaining objective in what they measure, particular in the field of quantum physics.

  • At the end of the day the equation is zero, we just want to know our own emptiness.....

  • This is a paradox, it`s partly true, partly untrue....

  • That is what it should be but... Does science have the tools/methods to measure the subjective as most of it is experiential?

  • That`s the beauty and wonder of science......discovering more and more through different eyes and minds. After all is said and done, maybe we will finally realize that this wonderous world we live in can not be harnessed by man......instead we are harnessed by this wonderous world.

  • interesting, as consciousness defines what "science" is.... strange loop alert!

  • "If you`re willing to put in the work, the idea is that you should be able to raise a family and not go bankrupt because you got sick, because you`ve got some health insurance that helps you deal with those difficult times... that you can put some money away for retirement.... That`s ALL MOST PEOPLE WANT.... Folks DON`T HAVE unrealistic ambitions." ~Barack Obama https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=385635868119589&set=p.385635868119589&type=1&theater
