Finding Love Around You

Category:  Ask Deepak

Question:

Hello Dr. Chopra, it seems to me that it’s easy to feel and see love around you if you grew up in a loving environment. But what about the people who grew up in the lack of love? I don’t feel love as my natural state of being, love for me is a struggle, I have to invent it and when I do, I have to make it last and it feels really difficult. Your books changed my life, I see truth in them but there is a wall between me and true joy. My wounds are giant obstacles, and loneliness feels safe because I know nobody can hurt me. How can I trust life if I never trusted the people that brought me up? Im 50 years old, I love life but I don’t trust it. I want to be happy but I don’t seem to make it.

Response:

Love is your essential nature. So to feel love and see love around you, you need to be in contact with your true self. Real love is not invented or pretended, it has to be as natural an expression of your life as your breath and heartbeat. Your old wounds and distrust may seem like big obstacles to your happiness, but if you go straight to your core self in meditation, you bypass those distracting stories and simply become that love and happiness.

Love,
Deepak

  • Each time I read Deepak`s works I gain new understanding. Perhaps re-visiting what you have read will give you a greater sense of self-acceptance and non-judgement. When you `come from` and abide in love, love will find You. May you see the beautiful person you are and be released from the bonds of past. This moment right now is perfect and whole and ...so are You ! namaste`

  • I like very much the story of King David confronting Goliath. The people were paralyzed by fear, but King David was very clear to know that there was non opposite force against God, so he stood in front of Goliath, took a stone in has hand and throw it in the face of Goliath. The story follows that Goliath fell to the ground. Was it the little stone that overcame Goliath? Or was it the realization of King David of the nothingness of the nature of Goliath? we all have to be brave to overcome the Goliath that try to paralyze our joy and life. The experiences of your past is the Goliath that try to paralyze you, If joy is your truth life than what caused you the opposite was an illusion a false believe. a false experience. as Love is the unique there is. King David was clear to know that there was non power above God. non opposite to Love. make Love the strongest in your life and throw the stone. Love is in your hands now.

  • Love is who and what we are. You only have to look at the babies to see this BUT most are trained away from it but we can make a decision to return to that natural (but uncommon) state of BEing.

  • i speak from my own experience, which is similar to the person`s who asked this question. my life-long wounds have been the doorway to the love Deepak is describing. when i made a decision to be open to healing by listening to my intuition, the pain became intense, but also provided opportunity to see and live my new life, my true life. by going through the pain, being open to feeling it and discovering it`s roots, (with help of professionals and friends)the journey became the key to freedom. when i stay open to letting energy flow through me, that`s when i was able to let got of `bad` energy and accept `good` energy. if i shut down and closed and stayed angry or hurt etc., that`s when my energy stayed stagnant and toxic and manifested itself in my poor health. (mental, physcial, spiritual, emotional) by listening to my intuition, if something kept popping up, i would follow that path if it was what someone was saying, or buying a certain book that i kept seeing, or calling a friend, or going on a certain hike, or eat at a certain resturant, or get the urge to write my thoughts down, i would follow it, and sure enough, a breakthrough would result. may your journey be filled with wellness and openness.

  • I was raised as a Christian Fundamentalist and have gradually awakened to the oneness of humanity. I`m constantly challenged and admonished and accused of "walking on dangerous territory" almost everytime I quote you. I don`t mind the challenge, I just feel like I have to keep fighting that battle over and over again, or give up my old friends, which I don`t want to do. I guess I want my cake and eat it too, as the old saying goes. But I cannot turn away from the truths I have found in your teachings and be like I was the first 40 years of my life. How do you deal with the rejection?

  • Dear friend, remember that our purpose in life is to get better and better in our spiritual life, which is not easy. When i was a child, i never got any kisses or hugs, no affection demonstrations at home, but, when i had my children, no matter how uncomfortable i felt hugging and kissing, (i was not used to those love demonstrations) i decided that my children deserve a better life than the one i had. You will feel uncomfortable demonstrating or feeling love, but, it is only in the beginning, you will get used to love and you will brake the bad past, we have to make life easier, good luck!

  • The Law Of Giving The law of giving says that your body, your mind and this universe is in constant and dynamic change. The divine energy is continually flowing through each of us and in order to receive something, you must be willing to give something. Many people believe that if they will give, they will have less but the law of giving does not work like that. According to this law, when you will give, you will have more. Now that you have understood that when you will give, you will have more, you should make full advantage of this law. You need to make a decision that any time you come into contact with someone, you will give him or her something. Not only money but you may also give a flower, a smile, a compliment or a prayer. In return the nature will load your life with love, success and happiness.
