Keep Your Eye on the Path - Responding to Susan Blackmore
Category: Spirituality
This post is a response to Debating Deepak Chopra by Susan Blackmore and originally was published by www.psychologytoday.comRead article and comment
In her recent blog post ("Debating Deepak Chopra") Susan Blackmore raises questions that have fascinated me for over a quarter of a century. What is consciousness? How is the mind related to the body? What does it mean to lead a spiritual life?
Her answers come from a long background in Zen Buddhism, mine from the non-dual tradition of Vedanta (which predates Buddhism and is the deepest spiritual tradition in India). As soon as they read these esoteric terms, many readers—unless they already practice Zen—may wonder how such arcane discussions, which haven't been settled over the last two or three thousand years—concern them in daily life. I sympathize, because I asked myself the same question 30 years ago as a young physician in Boston who had spent a good many years ignoring the culture that gave me birth.

Levels of Awareness
Category: Spirituality
Excerpted from my book Spiritual Solutions: Answers to Life’s Greatest ChallengesRead article and comment
Self- awareness isn’t the same as praying, believing in miracles, or seeking God’s favor. The vision I’ve sketched in is spiritual because of the third level of awareness, which I’ve labeled pure awareness.

The third level of awareness is a pure self-insight, remembering pure love and light.......

God is available to all who seek regardless of their method of seeking. Learning about god has only one requirement... wanting to learn. You don't have to read, you don't even have to listen to anyone else. You CAN do those, but if you choose not to (for any personal reason), God is still available! (And that is what Dr Chopra teaches.) He has an excellent book (also available in recording authors-voice), called 'How to know God'. But his current book is much more concise and goes directly to providing a solution. (I recommend it too.)

If you choose not to buy the books, you could still pick up enough information to begin increasing awareness of your spirituality through this forum and his new U Tube channel <http://www.youtube.com/user/TheChopraWell>. ~ * ~ peace

Expanding Your Awareness
Category: Spirituality
Excerpted from my book Spiritual Solutions: Answers to Life’s Greatest ChallengesRead article and comment
Awareness isn’t passive. It leads directly to action (or inaction). The way that you perceive a problem will inevitably blend with how you try to solve the problem. We’ve all been in groups that are asked to accomplish a task, and when the discussion begins, each participant displays aspects of their awareness. Someone seizes the floor, demanding attention. Someone else hangs back silently. Certain voices are cautious and pessimistic, while other voices are the opposite.

"Owning your own feelings, rather than blaming them on someone else, is the mark of a person who has moved from contracted to expanded awareness" It is the "evolutionary" road ahead in a person`s life. The hero`s and heroine`s journey in a labyrinth with U-turns in which we discover that we always arrive in the middle where we look into the mirror of ourselves. Sometimes we are far away from the middle, sometimes we are very close. But we know we will arrive there....

What Is a Spiritual Solution?
Category: Spirituality
Excerpted from my book Spiritual Solutions: Answers to Life’s Greatest ChallengesRead article and comment
No one will disagree that life brings challenges, but step back for a moment and ask the deeper question, which is why. Why is life so difficult? No matter what advantages you are born with— money, intelligence, an appealing personality, a sunny outlook, or good social connections— none of these provides a magic key to an easy existence. Somehow life manages to bring difficult problems, the causes of untold suffering and struggle. How you meet your challenges makes all the difference between the promise of success and the specter of failure. Is there a reason for this, or is life simply a random series of events that keeps us off balance and barely able to cope?

"To become an architect, who has been handed the blueprint" Wow, that`s a good description. Spiritual solutions are inner solutions. There is a really good blueprint in Nature called the Four Seasons. Each season can easily be a blueprint of the stage one is in. Youth, Adolescence, Maturity, Wisdom. It can also be compared with the four forces in Nature: Gravity, Electro-magnetic force, Strong force, Weak force. One person in India handed me this blueprint through his "Book of Life" called "Self-Designed Universe". He made me understand how all those different approach disciplines in life can be understood going through the four forces all the time, getting entangled and disentangled again. The resulting blueprint is the Super-Force: the Creative Force that takes care of both: entanglement and disentanglement. It is also called Love. Love IS: Love….. Creates in endless ways........ Always moving, always still....... In this dynamic state it stays........ Love is manifestation, at will.........

People here on earth are, at their present-level of development, and mainly are a mixture of, `the swirling emotions and thoughts`, which are ever-running in us. If we; are filled-with the negative-emotions such as; fear, hate, anger, selfishness, greed, a bloated up ego or vanity and the like, then we feel these, express these, and the world is a manifestation of these. Until mankind, being each of us, chooses to cultivate the higher positive-emotions within ourselves; and by method` learns to transmute these using their opposites ...like `kind` feeling water poured on a `angry` feeling fire, it puts it out, thus - one emotional reaction at a time, we learn to become `the master of our emotions`, and live in a world within ourselves of the `positive emotions` - and thoughts. Feeling love, kindness, generosity, sacrifice and the like. Thus the inner worlds, manifest the outer worlds, and the technology is understood. This is not` understood as `not difficult`. It is truly difficult to master ourselves. To practice the higher ways. To transform ourselves. Yet; doing so is a joy unspeakable. And; - then much of the outer-world of difficulty, on earth which we see and experience - of which i inferred you to mean in hardships, war, killing, greed, corruption ~ will dissipate and fade away like a bad dream. A nightmare. This has been spoken of in All the world`s religions and by all those shining ones who have come before. The East` calls it right-thinking, right-feeling, right-action, right~being. The West The Ten Commandments, for if we followed them there would be no more killing, no coveting, no adultery, and et cetera ~ utopia. The Christians - do unto others, the golden rule, love your fellow man, and basically All the teachings of Jesus. Buddha - cultivate your mind, your thoughts, your feelings for they manifest from the inner worlds to the outer worlds. Thus All religions have this technology ~ interwoven ~ within them. `It is difficult because - we are challenged to grow ourselves`. And, because the Master Creator, the most Gifted Artist Who has ever Lived, is at Work creating His Good Creation `ing. Let us learn to co-create ourselves and swim With` the great Current. --marc

A Personal Note
Category: Relationships , Spirituality
Excerpted from my book Spiritual Solutions: Answers to Life’s Greatest ChallengesRead article and comment
Ever since my first days as a doctor, forty years ago, people have asked for answers. A medical treatment was what they wanted, but the reassurance and comfort that human contact could bring was just as valuable, perhaps even more so. Unless he’s completely burned out, a physician sees himself as a rough- and- ready savior, yanking victims out of danger into a state of safety and well- being.
I’m grateful for my years seeing patients, because I learned the difference between advice and solutions. People who are in trouble are rarely helped by advice. Crises don’t wait; something very bad will happen if the right solution isn’t found.
I kept the same standard in mind when writing this book. It began with people writing me with troubles on their minds. Their letters were sent from around the world— at one point I was answering questions daily or weekly from India, the United States, and many other locales, mostly through the Internet. Yet in a sense everyone was writing from the same place inside, where confusion and darkness had overwhelmed them. These people were hurt, betrayed, abused, misunderstood, ill, worried, anxious, and at times desperate. Sadly, that is the human condition, almost permanently for some people, but these feelings are always possible for people who are happy and contented— for the moment.

I had a doctor in the past who was able to ask me the right questions at the right moment and so let me come up with my own answers and a solution to the existential problem I had at that time. If a doctor, a shrink or a personal coach is able to do that, without immediately writing out a recipe, then he knows what it is to be the observer and let a person be able to take his/her own personal responsibility. Am grateful for that and have been able to figure everything in life out by myself since then. But the sad truth in our society is that when doctors will do that, they make themselves redundant including the pharmaceutical industry. It would reduce the costs of health care enormously but also increase unemployment in this sector in a large way. And this is also the eternal dilemma of politics: to allow their citizens this liberal freedom or not. In my country the costs of healthcare are the largest debt burden because everyone has lost their own sense of responsibility for their own health...... And now they try to blame the seniors for living too long and scaring them that they will all get dementia and who is going to pay that.......

I couldn`t agree more. The struggle is in our mind. Its our very own manifestation of that which isn`t.

Comment See all commentsI`ve laughed my heart out watching that video of you, Leonard Mlodinov, Susan Blackmore and Menas (forgot the rest of his name) debating the obvious and to me it is clear that something that is a natural fact has been twisted into a surreality which makes the debate irrational. But nevertheless, thanks for the laugh and the performance. Boosted a lot of endorphins into my body, just watching it :)

And about the laws of physics even albert einstien`s e= mc2 has been proved wrong as they have shown that some neutrinos travel faster than speed of light. The cosmological constant that einstien had first added and then taken off his equation is finding it`s way back in. There is some reason why that cosmological constant was taken off by him, I`m not sure why. But I guess there is some cosmological constant that actually started the whole thing .. the universe and arguably the life..
